Life After Separation/Divorce: Believe in Yourself!

There are very few times in our lives that an event pushes us to our limits, to be our very best…and divorce is one of them. Embrace that!

You can either let your new overwhelm and consume you, or you can use it to better yourself in ways you’ve never known possible. I think becoming a parent is another one of those big events that pushes us forward and tests us. Starting life as a single parent might even do that more so.

Anything is possible when you change your mindset about the challenges that lie ahead. I know you are full of uncertainty, stress, and anxiety, but there are so many great things in store for you! When you conquer the challenges that lie ahead you will be filled with so much confidence in yourself.

I read an interesting study not too long ago about actions you can take to psych yourself up for success. Scientists used a HUGE group of people (45,000!!!) to examine the issue. They compared self talk (“I can do x”), visualization (picturing the outcome you want), and preparation with if-then scenarios. Which do you think won?

SELF TALK!!! You can literally convince yourself to improve and succeed at your goals simply by telling yourself you can do it. Sounds crazy, right? Well, science doesn’t lie, and we like science around here.

What does this mean for you?

It means you need to STOP telling yourself you can’t do this single parenting thing, that you can’t live without your ex, that you can’t make enough money to do this right. To change your mindset, you need to change how you think about yourself and how you talk to yourself.

Not only will this help yourself, but it will help your kids, too! Positivity is contagious…but so is negativity. Have you ever hung out with someone who is negative all the time? It’s exhausting! It’s like I can literally feel them sucking out my energy and happiness. But when you talk to yourself positively, and ultimately to others the same, it has the exact opposite effect. You fuel yourself and those around you with energy!
