Life After Divorce: What Are You Capable Of?

What are you capable of? So much more than you know!

One of the biggest challenges I’ve heard of from my friends going through separation and divorce is the realization that suddenly, everything is up to you, whether you’ve done it before or not: mowing the lawn, fixing the drain, installing a faucet, gardening, painting, etc. It can be an overwhelming feeling!

Buuuuuut you know what? You CAN do all those things! Since living in my own house, I’ve installed a new kitchen faucet, under counter water filter, 2 new shower heads, fixed a door that wouldn’t stay open, torn out my carpet, and fixed my car. That’s a lot of money saved, and a lot of confidence and self-esteem built.

I know what you’re thinking: “Amy, you are naturally handy, but I am SO not!” That’s ok though. A lot of things that we think look hard, actually aren’t. You have to get out of your own head and push past the excuses and doubt.

With all of the amazing resources at our fingertips nowadays, there’s almost no excuse. When my bedroom door wouldn’t stay open, I turned to YouTube to see how to fix it. I totally expected it to be some huge project where I’d have to take the door off the hinges, sand things, etc. Want to know what the fix was? Taking ONE pin out of the door hinge, hitting it on the concrete patio with a hammer to slightly bend it, and putting it back in. It tightened the grip of the hinges, and voila! The door stayed open. So. Freaking. Easy. Like, literally took me 2 minutes. Who knew???? I even got to put my skills to work today at my parents’ when they had a door that they had to keep propping open. They were pretty impressed. 😉

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and take some chances. Try new things! Show your kids that you can be strong and independent, and that it’s ok to learn new things and try to do stuff on your own. They will learn by example, and would probably love to try all these new things with you!

Want to hear more? Watch my video below where I talk about all this and more. Warning: I do spend the first minute showing off my new hair LOL, and please ignore the couple of interruptions, because, well, #momlife.
