Home Security Camera Review: YI Home Security Camera

Have you ever wondered what goes on in your home when you aren’t there? Maybe you have a sneaking suspicion that people are in your home when they shouldn’t be, or snooping in places they shouldn’t? Be it a need for safety, to check up on your kids, or peek in on your dog, a home security camera is something you should consider having.

When I decided a home security camera was something I needed, I got to researching. (If you know me, no decision can be made without a maddening amount of over-researching…) In the end, I settled on the YI 1080p Home Security Camera. It brought together the best of both function and price for me.

At 1080p, it gives a super clear picture — like watching something you took on your iphone. What I really love is that I can fully access a live video from my phone, no matter where I am. It even has a two-way speaker, so you can speak to the people in your home. A great thing for getting your dog off the couch haha! Or a really fun way to freak out your kids. Your choice!

Unlike many other cameras, it takes up to a 32GB micro SD card, which means you don’t have to pay a monthly fee for cloud service to store your video, though you can if you want to. I keep mine set to record only when there is movement which saves space on the card. This still gives me several days’ worth of recording saved at a time. Since I get alerts whenever there is motion, I know if there is a segment I need to save for evidence. I also have it set to send me a 6-second clip of what it is seeing with each alert, so I can peek quick and see if it’s anything I need to take action on. Most of the time, it’s just my dog rolling over in her sleep…but it’s comforting to know I can see what’s happening at home. You can also set the sensitivity for motion and receiving alerts. At it’s strongest setting, it even starts recording just from a light being turned on or off.

If you decide you want to use it as a baby monitor, it also has a cool feature you can choose to enable that alerts you when a baby cries. And then with the two way talk, you can start comforting your baby before you even make it up to their room! So much cooler than what I had when my kids were babies!

It even has night vision, so you can feel safe when it’s dark, too. No matter when you need proof of something going on in your home, this will do the trick. And at only $59.99, I found it to be a bargain compared to what else is out there. It’s encrypted, the app is super easy to use, and the camera even literally talks you through setup. I’m very happy with my cameras’ performance. I can even access and control all of my YI Home security cameras from the same app.

If you have any concerns about your home, your kids, and your safety, I highly recommend you check this home security camera out!

P.S. You can also get these ridiculously cute “disguises” for your camera! I know, I know, they are so stupid…but come on…you know you want your camera to look cute!
